2021 Jackson-Triggs Grand Reserve Riesling
Lively and vivacious, the 2020 Riesling is bursting with notes of green apple, lime, apricot, pineapple, citrus peel and crushed stone. Its medium body is bright with acidity and textured with a subtle hint of residual sweetness. In all this is a brilliantly balanced wine with a flavourful palate and a crisp, clean finish.
The 2020 harvest was, in effect, early. Harvest dates for each variety were largely notably earlier than what is considered the norm. Autumn was brilliant with warm, sunny days and nominal rainfall, ideal conditions for harvest. While yields were slightly short on all varieties, the overall quality was excellent. The perfect weather conditions allowed the grapes to develop phenolic ripeness without breakdown. Not unexpectedly, these conditions contributed significantly to an exceptional vintage that yielded wines with high sugars and low acids.
The fruit for this elegant Riesling came from our very best, select Niagara Peninsula vineyards. The fruit was destemmed and immediately pressed to extract the abundant varietal characteristics and cold fermented at 13°C for ten days. Fermentation was then arrested specifically to capture the perfect sugar and acid balance.
This elegant Riesling is bursting with fragrant characters of apricot, green apple skin, candied lemon, Jolly Rancher, and baked pears on the nose. A bouquet of lemon zest, stone fruit, and mineral notes take shape on the palate as brilliant acidity balances out the succulent, slight sweetness.
