Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
A delicate display of lanolin, lemon zest, and quince with tropical tones of mango and pawpaw lead to hints of clove and toasted vanilla. The palate exhibits vibrant notes of stone fruit alongside bright acidity, balanced by the richness from the subtle oak framework, leaving an oily yet taut, fresh finish.
Vineyard Notes
The mild winter of 2023 transitioned into a warm spring, prompting bud break 1-2 weeks early depending on location. However, hopes for an exceptional vintage waned due to one of the wettest growing seasons on record, heightening disease pressure until September. Conditions shifted in September, offering ideal weather for a classic Niagara vintage. Moderate warmth during the day and cool nights, coupled with minimal rainfall, preserved acidity and freshness in aromatic whites and sparklings, while reds achieved optimal phenolic and flavour ripeness with rich colour accumulation, allowing for selective picking tailored to desired wine styles. Overall a classic Niagara vintage across the board for all wines.
Production Notes
The fruit for this blend came from two prestigious vineyards in Niagara. The Sauvignon Blanc, grown at our Mountainview Vineyard on the Beamsville Bench, showing excellent ripeness and hardiness. The Semillon grapes were harvested from Delaine Vineyard. After 12 hours on skins, a portion of each of these grapes were fermented in barrel using indigenous yeast strains. The balance of these two varieties were fermented in stainless steel separately. This blend (52% Sauvignon Blanc and 48% Semillon) yielded a remarkable Meritage, ready to drink now, or allowed to mature for 5-7 years.
Food Pairing Notes
Try this superb wine with dishes such as wood-fired oven sourdough flatbread with wild mushrooms and balsamic glaze, bacon-wrapped scallops, fresh oysters and pear and brie panini with parsnip chips. Well matched with goat, feta and Gruyere cheeses.
