Our Grand Reserve Gewürztraminer Icewine displays rich tropical aromas of guava and mango underscored by distinct floral notes. Honeyed flavours of apricot and pineapple are balanced with spicy acidity and conclude with a luxurious extended finish.
A fantastic year for Icewine grapes, December 2016 brought ideal conditions for harvest allowing all grapes to be brought in before Christmas. All grape varietals went into the Icewine season in great shape and optimal flavour development thanks to prime weather conditions during September, October and November. All grapes were harvested under the bright moonlit sky between December 12 and 19 in frigid temperatures of -10°C and -13°C. Several freeze/ thaw occurrences in early December really allowed the grapes (Vidal especially) the opportunity to dehydrate, concentrating the flavours.
The grapes for the 2016 vintage were picked at a frigid -10°C being pressed immediately, allowing the juice to settle until clear. Racked off and fermented cool with a very specially selected yeast strain which can withstand the difficult fermentation conditions that Icewine juice presents. The fermentation was stopped naturally when the perfect balance of residual sugar and alcohol was reached.
This Icewine boasts intense aromas and flavours. Honeysuckle, rose petal, and baking spice notes are livened up by bright citrus and melon. This wine is lush and full on the palate with a firm acidic backbone making for a perfectly balanced Icewine with a long lasting, creamy finish.
