Bold and intense notes of dark berries, black cherry, raisin and fig are met by rich and smooth characters of mocha, leather and baking spice. This wine is powerful and concentrated with smooth tannin and a lasting dried fruit finish.

Altogether apposite and different, aromatically tart and sweetly herbal. Plenty of chocolate sweetness and yet really fine acidity. Wood and fruit, sweet, sour, tart and intense. The ripe fruit is a bit cooked though there’s lots of potential here. Drink 2020-2024. Tasted June 2019, 90 Points.

The attractive nose is one to linger over - textbook Merlot aromas of dark cherry fruit, dried craisin, savoury herbs and plenty of luscious oak sweetness, with a very appealing cedar and fruit potency marking the finish. The tannins are grippy but ripe, adding a nice vinosity to this very plump, balanced Merlot. Rich, full-bodied and full-fruited, and entirely pleasurable to pair with umami-laden, slow-braised ribs. I tasted this delicious wine in a blind competition, and now that I know that the appassimento technique was used (20% of the Merlot grapes are dried to concentrate their flavour and boost mouth-coating body with extra glycerol) I am extra impressed. Bold fruit sweetness is nicely off-set by savoury complexity and well-pitched acidity, and the cedary oak brings it all into harmony. 91 Points.
