Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Fruit forward, with generous notes of juicy red fruit, blueberry, smoke, vanilla, and cherries. The wine is well structured with silky tannins and a smooth mouthfeel. This full bodied blend boasts a lasting finish with hints of coffee and vanilla.
Vineyard Notes
Despite the late start to the growing season due to a cool spring, the vines started flourishing in early May, making up for lost time and thriving under hot, dry days throughout June, July and August. This above average hot summer was perfect for grape development, allowing all varieties including the later ripening reds the opportunity to advance. It was more challenging approaching harvest as the weather shifted to less than ideal, with high heat, humidity and some rain; thankfully dry days followed for all varietals to be harvested by early November. All varietals were ultimately harvested at optimal quality, thanks to ideal growing conditions through the summer months.
Production Notes
Harvested across some of our finest vineyards in the middle of October, the fruit was left hanging until perfect ripeness and balance for picking. After being carefully crushed it was sent to tank to cold soak for 72 hours. The tanks were warmed to begin a 10 day fermentation with carefully selected yeast, then rotated to extract colour and flavour before gently pressing and completing malolactic fermentation. Finally, the wine underwent an 18 month elevage in predominantly American oak, yielding incredible complexity and balance.
Winemaker Notes
This rich, robust wine is rife with aromas of wild blueberry, black currant, bellpepper and juicy blackberry. Hints of vanilla, mocha eucalyptus and spicy black pepper are prominent. The Meritage is a soft, round wine with a bracing core of fruit and plush mid-palate, with whispers of cassis and vanilla evident on the prolonged finish. Notes of white flower and coconut frame this fruit-driven wine.
Food Pairing Notes
This vintage of Meritage shows extremely well when served with dishes such as smoked brisket, crown roast lamb or mustard crusted lamb shanks, spicy chorizo risotto and chicken liver pate. Try it with dark chocolate truffles as a very special after dinner treat.

Deep ruby red, the nose shows black cherry, blackberry, peppers, mocha, cedar, herbs, sous bois and graphite. Refreshing black cherry and spice on the finish. Decant before serving and enjoy with grilled pork tenderloin. Tasted May 2022. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
