Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Peach, apricot, citrus, floral, spice and toast intermingle on the nose.
Vineyard Notes
The 2019 harvest was predictably late in getting underway, starting September 6th. The sunny, cool weather and low humidity that kicked off harvest allowed the fruit to develop phenolic ripeness for an extended period without breaking down. There was an unusual and early cold snap in mid-November, along with close to 30 cm of snow on November 11th. Growers were confronted with some challenges as they navigated machinery through snowy vineyards, but prevailed successfully and wrapped up harvest on November 26th.
Production Notes
Grapes for this wine were harvested from our Montague vineyards after an extended hang time on the vines. Gently crushed and pressed the juice was allowed to cold settle overnight before racking clean. Fermented at a cool 14 C for 16 days the wine was then aged in French Oak for 5 months before bottling.
Winemaker Notes
This Niagara Pinot Gris shows an abundance of peach, apple and floral notes along with citrus flavours that complement the full palate and crisp acidity.
Food Pairing Notes
Fresh cucumber salad with ricotta or mozzarella cheese; mild white fish like pan seared pickerel with orange butter; pasta al olio (olive oil, chili, garlic); a great reception wine or for simply sipping on the deck/on the dock.
