July 2017
Alan Doyle & The Beautiful Gypsies Concert
8:00 PM     Tue, Jul 4, 2017
Venue: Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate Winery

With very special guest Skydiggers

Join us in our outdoor amphitheatre for an unsurpassed combination of renowned Canadian talent, light fare and premium, award-winning Estate wines... Alan Doyle, best known as lead singer for Newfoundland’s beloved Great Big Sea these past 20+ years, released his second solo album, So Let’s Go, in January 2015. Title-track lead single ‘So Let’s Go’, is a rousing rallying cry that’s only further proof of Doyle’s ability to draw the listener under his banner. Equally adept at drawing a crowd, Doyle & the Beautiful Gypsies are taking their energetic show across North America and to Europe in 2017. So Let’s Go follows Doyle’s first solo outing, Boy On Bridge, released in 2012. Doyle and his ace six-piece will be playing songs from Doyle’s solo records along with Great Big Sea favourites, traditional songs and some unpredictable gems from far-flung places that are sure to thrill.

Chemistry, passion, energy and evolution are words that come to mind when Andy Maize and Josh Finlayson talk about 25 years together in Skydiggers. In the studio and on the road opening for the likes of 54-40, The Tragically Hip, Cowboy Junkies and Blue Rodeo; Skydiggers are not only riding all of those years of momentum but continuing to evolve as well. If someone ever takes up a Canadian Rock Family Tree project and plots the development of the Canadian roots rock community, they may discover that many - if not all - branches at some point interconnect with the Skydiggers. “We realize how fortunate we are to be part of a community. And so everybody is a Skydigger – past, present and future.”

Donovan Woods’ work is guided by a mantra that only sounds simple: Good songs win. Woods, a Juno Award nominee, was raised in the small city of Sarnia, Ontario, to the sounds of country music, with a healthy dose of folk and pop, a combination that instilled in him a strong belief in the power of a good melody, the importance of everyday language and the potential of a carefully-crafted song. While amassing a catalogue of rousing and acclaimed music of his own, he has worked with some of the top songwriters in North America to craft cuts for performers ranging from Alan Doyle to Billy Currington.
