The Trews Acoustic

Friday August 11, 2017 | 8:00 PM

Though the Toronto-based foursome made its name dishing intense, hooky, melodic rock & roll that won fans and critics worldwide – not to mention heaps of awards and countless radio hits pulled from a clutch of live and studio albums and EPs – The Trews discovered, on their highly-acclaimed acoustic tours, that turning down the volume actually dialed up the heft. These days, the acoustic shows bookend a career still laser-focused on rock but – more than a decade in – can comfortably accommodate new ventures and fresh ideas.

Rheostatics

Saturday August 12, 2017 | 8:00 PM

Since their debut in 1980, the Rheostatics have occupied a unique place in the Canadian music landscape, being the first among their generation to sing about their country; its places; people; vision; and soul. Their eclecticism has resulted in one of the most longstanding careers in alternative pop history, with 11 albums released since 1987, including Melville and the Genie-award winning Whale Music. They have toured the country opening for the Tragically Hip and recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of their ground-breaking instrumental album, Music Inspired by the Group of Seven.

The Sheepdogs

Friday August 18, 2017 | 8:00 PM

From their Saskatchewan jam space to gold and platinum records and shows with rock icons, The Sheepdogs haven’t strayed from their goal of sharing pure, passionate rock n’ roll with anyone who’ll listen – and Future Nostalgia, their fifth LP, is packed with it. Firmly rooted in the rock tradition, Future Nostalgia is the middle ground between the JUNO-winning, platinum-certified Learn & Burn, which spawned the rock radio staple “I Don’t Know,” and its equally successful follow-up, 2012’s The Sheepdogs, featuring the instantly-recognizable, Gold-certified singles “Feeling Good” and “The Way It Is.”

Rootstock - featuring Torquil Campbell (STARS) & Ron Sexsmith

Saturday August 19, 2017 | 8:00 PM

Ron Sexsmith’s status as one of the greatest songwriters of his generation has never been in doubt. His thirteenth solo album, The Last Rider, is by turns romantic, bittersweet, uplifting and humourous, but what is most striking is how at ease Sexsmith sounds, accompanied by his trusted touring band. For The Last Rider, it felt right to record in Canada, and as a result, Sexsmith believes it’s one of his most personal albums. Through truth and simplicity, Sexsmith’s songs bring us closer to the things that make us better people, meaning that an album like The Last Rider is as necessary now as anything he has ever done.

27-year-old Quebec native Bobby Bazini made his full-length debut with 2010’s Better in Time. Premiering at no. 4 on Billboard’s Canadian Albums chart, Better in Time also received platinum certification from the Canadian Recording Industry Association and scored 2 nominations at the 2011 Juno Awards (New Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year). Also certified platinum, Bazini’s 2014 follow-up Where I Belong won him another two nominations at the 2015 Juno Awards, including Album of the Year. While a certain melancholy instills many of the songs on his third full-length album, Summer Is Gone, Bazini’s warmth as a vocalist and ingenuity as a songwriter ultimately make for an undeniably hopeful album.

Blackie and the Rodeo Kings

Supporting Artist: Thompson Wilson

Friday August 25, 2017 | 8:00 PM

Blackie and the Rodeo Kings originally formed in 1996 when Colin Linden, Stephen Fearing and Tom Wilson came together to record what was supposed to be a one-off tribute album to the great Canadian songwriter Willie P. Bennett. At the time, all three members were deeply committed to burgeoning solo careers that they had no intentions of putting on hold. Now, 20 years later, 8 albums, one JUNO award and several nominations under their belts, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings have organically evolved into one of the finest roots-oriented bands in North America and remain one of Canada’s greatest musical treasures.
